It is not often we recommend not buying smartphones, let alone the genuinely good ones. But here we are, doing exactly that, and there’s a compelling reason behind this.
Although there are many excellent smartphones from Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo, and Poco, they are likely to become more affordable very soon. With the launch of their successors just around the corner, buying these devices now might not be the wisest choice. Once the next generation of these devices arrive, current models will likely see significant price drops.
Here are five devices you should avoid purchasing in the next few weeks:

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (review) is undoubtedly one of the most complete Android flagship smartphones available. However, with the imminent launch of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, purchasing the Galaxy S24 Ultra now might not be the smartest move. Prices are expected to drop substantially once Galaxy S25 Ultra is released.
iPhone SE 3

The iPhone SE 3 (review) is the last Apple smartphone to feature a Home button. However, Apple is rumoured to release the iPhone SE 4—potentially named the iPhone 16E—which will come with a larger display, bigger battery, higher-resolution camera, and Apple Intelligence. If you’re considering the iPhone SE 3, it’s worth waiting until the iPhone SE 4 launches, as the SE 3 will likely become more affordable.
Poco X6 Pro

The Poco X6 Pro (review) launched nearly a year ago, redefined performance in the mid-range Android segment. Poco is now preparing to introduce the Poco X7 Pro on January 9, featuring the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Ultra chip and a massive 6,500mAh battery. Given these upgrades, waiting for the Poco X7 Pro’s launch makes more sense, as the X6 Pro’s price is expected to drop.
OnePlus 12/12R

The OnePlus 12 and 12R are currently being sold at their lowest prices yet. However, with the OnePlus 13 and 13R set to launch on January 7, boasting improved designs, upgraded hardware, and refined software, it’s worth waiting a few more days. The OnePlus 12 and 12R are likely to see further price reductions after the new models are released.

Oppo has confirmed the launch of the Reno 13 series in January, which will feature premium glass-metal designs, an IP69 rating, and better hardware. Buying the Reno 12 or Reno 12 Pro now might feel like a setback, as their prices are likely to drop significantly once the Reno 13 series hits the market.
Even if you’re eager to buy one of these devices, holding off for a few more weeks could help you get better deals and maximize the value of your money.
