I’ve come a long way from being an Android purist who preferred stock Android to fully embracing Samsung’s highly customised One UI. After upgrading from the Galaxy S23 Ultra to the Galaxy S25+ nearly a month ago, I’ve realised just how much One UI 7—especially its stock apps—has spoiled me.
Here are the five apps on the Galaxy S25+ (review) running One UI 7 that make it hard for me to switch from a Samsung smartphone in 2025:
Samsung Phone app

Unlike most Android smartphones that come equipped with Google Dialer, Samsung smartphones include their own phone app, and the one on the Galaxy S25+, running Android 15, is easily the best out there. From automatic voice call recording to live call translation, this dialer app has everything. On top of that, the built-in caller ID and spam protection help identify unwanted calls. For people with hearing difficulties, the Samsung Phone app also allows users to adjust the phone’s audio to work better with hearing aids.
Samsung Wallet
This app can hold your credit, debit, and digital ID. (Express Photo)
Samsung’s latest Wallet app is leaps and bounds ahead of anything else on the market. Secured by Knox, the Wallet app is versatile like a Swiss Army knife—it can hold digital debit and credit cards for online and offline payments, supports UPI, has built-in DigiLocker support, stores flight, train, and bus tickets, and even includes digital car keys. This is easily my most used Samsung app, making travel a lot more convenient.
Samsung Gallery

Some Android smartphones, in favour of Google Photos, do not include a Gallery app, but Samsung’s is one of the most practical. It offers access to both offline photos and several AI-powered photo and video editing tools, such as Generative Edit, Sketch to Image, and even an audio eraser that removes background noise from videos. From accessing photos to editing them, Samsung’s Gallery app is one of the best.
Samsung Voice Recorder

For someone like me, who frequently attends product briefings and interactions, Samsung’s Voice Recorder is invaluable. Besides recording audio, it can transcribe (on-device), translate, and summarize information. Any journalist would appreciate this voice recorder, as most transcription apps that actually work require a subscription.
Samsung Good Lock
An app with unlimited customisation options. (Express Photo)
Although it doesn’t come pre-installed and has to be downloaded from the Samsung Store, the latest version of the Good Lock app on One UI 7 unlocks a whole new level of smartphone customization. With add-ons like Home Up, Theme Park, Wonderland, and QuickStar, this is a must-have for anyone who loves to personalize their Samsung smartphone.
