Samsung’s Galaxy Watches are perhaps the best WearOS watches, but the main gripe with these devices is the battery life, with almost all iterations lasting anywhere between a day or two on a single charge. From apps consuming power in the background to unused internet networks, several factors contribute to your smartwatch battery draining. If you want to extend the battery life of your Galaxy Watch, here are some tips and tricks that will help you increase the standby time.

Turn off the always-on display
The always-on display may be one of the easiest ways of quickly checking your Galaxy Watch, but it also happens to be one of the biggest battery hogs. I tend to use the feature all day long but turn it off before going to sleep. Even Samsung says the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 will give you around 30 hours of battery with the always-on display turned on, whereas turning it off will give you around 40 hours of battery on a single charge. To turn off the always-on display on your Galaxy Watch, go to Settings, tap on ‘Display’, and toggle the feature called ‘Always on Display’ to off.

Reduce app notifications
Another reason why your Galaxy Watch battery may be draining is that your smartwatch may be constantly checking your phone to send notifications. If you are getting a lot of notifications on your smartwatch from apps that you don’t use that often, there’s a quick way to reduce them. To do so, open the Wearable app on your phone, tap on ‘Watch Settings’, select ‘Notifications’, proceed to tap on ‘App notifications’, and you will see a list of apps that can send notifications to your watch. Filter out the apps that you deem essential and are allowed on your watch, and you will see a noticeable increase in your smartwatch’s battery life.

Disable NFC
Samsung Galaxy Watch lets you quickly make NFC payments using the Samsung Wallet app, but if you resort to your phone to make payments, disabling NFC on your smartwatch may be a good idea. In case you have added the NFC quick tile on your Galaxy Watch, simply swipe down from the top and tap on the tile to disable the chip. Alternatively, you can also disable the functionality by opening the ‘Settings’ app on your watch, tapping on ‘Connections’, and setting the ‘NFC and contactless payments’ to off.
Here’s how to change the heart rate monitoring frequency on your smartwatch. (Express Photo)
Turn off continuous heart monitoring
If you don’t mind your Galaxy Watch not continuously monitoring your heart rate, consider setting the functionality to record your heart rate every 10 minutes or turning it off altogether if you don’t need it. While this might limit the smartwatch’s health tracking to a certain extent, changing the setting can help you save battery. To change the setting, open the ‘Wearable’ app on your phone, tap on ‘Samsung Health’, and on the screen that appears, change the setting named ‘Heart Rate’ to ‘Every 10 mins while still’ or ‘Manual only’.
Disabling the wake-up phrase for Bixby or Google Assistant can help you get more battery. (Express Photo)
Disable Hey’ Bixby’ detection
If you aren’t using voice assistants like Samsung Bixby on your smartwatch, make sure you disable the hot word key detection since it constantly runs in the background. To disable the feature, launch Bixby on your watch and tell it to “Open Bixby settings”. The voice assistant will then show a screen where you will be able to turn off the ‘Voice wake-up’ keyword.
