On Wednesday, following the iPhone 16e launch, Apple discontinued iPhone 14 and iPhone SE 3, the last two iPhones with a lightning port, marking the end of an era. The iPhone SE 3 was also the last iPhone to feature a physical home button.
This makes the iPhone 16e, with a starting price of Rs 59,900, the most affordable Apple smartphone one can officially buy from an Apple Store.
While consumers will still be able to purchase the iPhone SE 3 and the iPhone 14 (review) from third-party retail stores and e-commerce websites, Apple has most likely stopped the production of both models; meaning they are expected to disappear from store shelves worldwide.
Although Apple has discontinued the iPhone SE 3 (review) and the iPhone 14, the company will continue to provide after-sales support. Both phones are expected to receive at least two to three major OS updates, allowing existing users to continue using their devices without any issues.
The iPhone SE series had three launches, the first one introduced in 2016 as an affordable alternative to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus launched in late 2015, and heavily inspired by the iPhone 5s. The iPhone SE received its first refresh in 2020 after almost four years, based on the iPhone 8. It was refreshed again in 2022 with no major design changes but was introduced as the most affordable 5G-capable iPhone.
The iPhone 16e can serve as a replacement for both the iPhone 14 and the iPhone SE 3. From the front, it looks just like the iPhone 14, while from the rear, with its single camera, it resembles the iPhone SE 3.
