Apple unveiled the last iPhone SE 3 back in 2022, and rumour has it that the tech giant will release the next budget iPhone sometime next year. While Apple has yet to officially confirm speculations surrounding the iPhone SE 4, a new report from the Korean publication ETNews suggests that the soon-to-be-launched device will indeed have a 48MP primary camera. This is in line with previous rumours, which also hinted that the iPhone SE 4 (codenamed V59) will feature an upgraded rear camera alongside a fresh design.
According to the machine-translated version of the report, LG Innotek and LG Display will supply the camera and display for the much-anticipated device. It goes on to say that “LG Innotek has recently started mass production of camera modules for the iPhone SE4 at a factory in Vietnam,” with the front and rear cameras sporting 12MP and 48MP sensors, respectively.
Citing industry sources, the report also claims that Taiwan’s Foxconn and China’s Cowell Electronics and BOE are also a part of the iPhone SE 4’s supply chain. As for LG Display, the company will reportedly be responsible for the phone’s OLED panel supply. If true, this will be the first time Apple will be packing an OLED screen on its budget devices. The report also suggests that the iPhone SE 4 will have a 6.1-inch LTPS display, which is way bigger than the current generation’s 4.7-inch screen.
Another recent report from Bloomberg’s Apple analyst Mark Gurman claims that the iPhone SE 4 will have a less powerful modem compared to the iPhone 16 series, with 5G connectivity limited to the Sub-6 standard. Previous rumours also hinted that the iPhone SE 4 will have an edge-to-edge display like the iPhone 14 and will ditch the TouchID in favour of Face ID hardware. It is said to be powered by the A18 Bionic chipset and supports Apple Intelligence features. Compared to the iPhone SE 2022, which was launched with a price tag of $400, the iPhone SE 4 is said to cost somewhere around $500.
