Apple has expanded its self-repair programme to its latest smartphones — the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro series. The company has already listed detailed repair guides and genuine spares on the self-service repair store, currently available in select markets like the United States and select parts of Europe.
Currently, Apple is supporting all four iPhone 16 (review) models and offering the most common replacement components required for a repair, including the display, back panel, camera, battery, and more.
Again, the price of these components varies depending on the model. For example, the camera module of the iPhone 16/16 Plus costs $169, while the camera module of the iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max is priced at $249. The same goes for the display, battery, and back panel, where the owners of the Pro models have to shell out a bit more than vanilla iPhone 16 users.
The iPhone 16/16 Plus battery costs $99, which makes it a bit more expensive than the iPhone 15’s battery, while the batteries of the iPhone 16 Pro (review) series are priced at $116. Similarly, the 60Hz display panels of the iPhone 16 series cost $279, while the iPhone 16 Pro series screen is priced at $379.
Considering these prices, repairing an iPhone yourself is still expensive, and users can buy Apple Care+, which can help drastically reduce the repair cost.
This time around, Apple has made several changes to the design of the iPhone 16, making them ever-so-slightly more repair-friendly than their predecessors, which includes a new battery removal process, which just requires a 9W battery to release from its slot and an easy-to-repair back panel. Besides, Apple also released Repair Assistant with the iOS 18 update, which makes pairing and configuring replacement parts a lot easier, which otherwise required manual authentication.
While a professional can only order these components, others who might not have access to the kits required to complete the repair can also rent out the same from Apple for a nominal fee of $49 to complete the repair process.

Although it might sound like a pretty straightforward process, repairing an iPhone, despite the easy-to-access guides and components, is an intricate process. Even a slight mishap can render your iPhone useless, and it is definitely not meant for the untrained eye.
