Apple might launch the fourth generation of AirPods sometime in 2024 alongside the iPhone 16 series. The tech giant is also expected to bring an updated design and shortened stems.
According to a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple might launch two versions of AirPods 4 which will be available at two different price points. Gurman also claims that the current generation of AirPods, which cost Rs 19,900, are not as commercially successful as their previous iterations and that the upcoming non-pro AirPods models will replace both AirPods 2 and AirPods 3.
The standard version of AirPods 4 is also expected to get support for active noise cancellation (ANC), ditch the Lightning port for a USB-C case, and speakers for Find My alerts.
In terms of looks, AirPods 4 might look like a crossover between the current generation AirPods and AirPods Pro. The report also states that the new earbuds will have shorter stems and improve the fitting, but it is still unclear if Apple plans to add silicone tips.
As for AirPods Max, the tech giant might announce an updated version next year with new colours and a USB-C port but is unlikely to bring new software and hardware features. The AirPods Pro is expected to get a refresh in 2025 with enhanced comfort and rumour has it that Apple is also working on features like body temperature measurement and a bunch of health tracking features.
However, nothing is official at the moment and Apple might decide to change things down the line. Last week, the tech giant announced that AirPods Pro owners can buy the USB-C case as a standalone product for $99.
