Apple iPads have become much bigger over the last few years, with the latest iPad Pro M4 being the largest with a 13-inch screen. According to a Bloomberg report published on Sunday, Apple is pushing the envelope even further with a foldable iPad, which when opened will transform into an 18.8-inch touch display, making it bigger than the biggest MacBook Pro.
The report highlights that this iPad – Apple’s first foldable – will be as big as two iPads placed side-by-side. Besides, the company is said to have found a fix for the crease issue that haunts most foldable devices. Apple is also said to be working on a foldable iPhone (flip-style), which might not arrive until at least 2026.
Currently in development, the foldable iPad is expected to make its debut in 2026 or 2027, and on the software side of things, it is expected to have elements from both iPadOS and macOS to make it a productivity powerhouse. It might even be able to run native macOS apps (apps designed to run only on this operating system).
Like the current iPad Pro, the foldable iPad will come with an OLED screen, an essential component of a foldable device. While there is no information on the exact hardware, it is likely to be powered by the latest M series chip at the time of launch. Bearing in mind the latest trends, it is likely to pack 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage.
Considering that the 13-inch iPad Pro (review) starts at Rs 99,900, expect the foldable iPad to cost at least double that figure.
