Galaxy Unpacked 2024: Samsung launches Galaxy Watch Ultra, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 rival we have been waiting for | Technology News

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Watch Ultra, a new smartwatch that takes on the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The tech giant’s latest smartwatch comes with titanium cushioned frames and has a 1.5-inch Sapphire Crystal screen with an AMOLED panel that has a resolution of 480×480 pixels and 3,000 nits brightness.

It also happens to be the first smartwatch to run on One UI 6 based on WearOS out of the box. Samsung’s latest software for smartwatches offers several new health tracking features like Energy Score, which, similar to Fitbit’s Readiness Score, gives users an idea of their body’s energy levels. This is calculated by evaluating your physical and mental conditions across four factors – sleep, activity, sleeping heart rate and sleeping heart rate variability.

You also get a Sleep Score and some new sleep metrics like movement during sleep, sleep latency, and heart and respiratory rate which provides a detailed analysis of your sleep quality. The Galaxy Watch Ultra can also help detect Sleep Apnea in selected regions. Samsung also added an advanced glycation (AGEs) index that reflects your overall biological ageing process and gives you an insight into your metabolic health.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra offers 10ATM water resistance alongside IP68 water and dust resistance. In line with previous rumours, the smartwatch comes with an additional physical button sandwiched between the existing two rectangular buttons.

Powered by the Exynos W1000 chipset based on 3nm process, the Galaxy Watch Ultra comes with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage, which is double of what the Galaxy Watch 6 had to offer. It has a 590mAh battery that can last up to 100 hours on a single charge with the power-saving mode turned on.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra packs the new BioActive Sensor, which Samsung claims is 30 per cent more accurate than its previous versions. Similar to previous Galaxy Watches, you also get a temperature sensor, accelerometer, barometer, gyro sensor and a light sensor. It is available in only one screen size and can be purchased for $649 (approx. Rs 54,200) from July 12.
