On Thursday, Google announced that it has collaborated with Bluetooth SIG to introduce Auracast, powered by the latest Bluetooth LE technology to Android OS. Google Pixel 9 series, running on the latest Android 16 beta and Samsung Galaxy smartphones running on Android 15 based OneUI 7 will be the first set of smartphones to gain Auracast capability, which will let users tune into the audio broadcast from a public or a crowded venue while also applying hearing aids presents present on the phone for a personalised hearing experience.
Users can simply pair an Auracast compatible hearing aid from brands like GN Hearing and Starkey to an eligible Samsung or a Pixel smartphone to tune into Aurcast powered broadcasts from sources like public venues and TV streamers. Modern hearing aids come with a technology called Auracast, a Bluetooth-powered audio technology that lets users directly connect their devices to public audio broadcasts.
Auracast is not just meant for people with hearing impairment, as it has the potential to help almost anyone, especially in public places, where broadcasters can deliver the message over the earphones that people are already wearing, without troubling others. On select devices, users can simply scan a QR code to tap into the Auracast, as more and more public venues such as airports, malls, and public parks have started Auracast adoption to deliver personalised audio broadcasts.
Finding and joining an Aurcast audio broadcast will be similar to connecting to a Wi-Fi network, where some broadcasts will be open to connect, while the others will need a password. Similarly, one can also tune into an Auracast broadcast by scanning a QR code, and it can also be used to make payments.
