Google is already working on Android 16, which is slated to launch sometime next year. While we already have some idea of what the upcoming version of the world’s most popular mobile operating system will bring, it looks like the tech giant is working on a new iOS-inspired feature to combat motion sickness.
Dubbed “Motion Cues”, a recent report by Android Authority reveals that the functionality will soon be coming to Android devices and that users will be able to enable it via a Quick Settings tile. As it turns out, Android will also be able to automatically turn it on when it detects you are “driving.”
As you can see in the video, Motion Cues will place animated black dots at the edge of the display, which will mimic the direction of movement of your vehicle. The upcoming feature may not be able to completely stop motion sickness, but it will help users reduce the sensory conflict between what they see and how their brain feels without having a profound impact on the reading and watching experience.
While it is still unclear if and when Google will be rolling out Motion Cues to Android users, it looks like the feature will need the “Display over app” permission to work. However, given that Motion Cues is nearing completion, you won’t have to wait a long time.
A few months ago, Apple introduced a feature called “Vehicle Motion Cues” for devices running iOS 18, which also helps with motion sickness. Currently, the feature isn’t live for Android users, but interested users can access it by downloading and tweaking Google Play Services beta version 24.29.32 or newer.
