Huawei launches Pura X, a flip style phone with a wide fold-like inner display | Technology News

Huawei’s new foldable might make Samsung envious. The Chinese tech giant’s Pura X is a brand-new flip-style foldable phone with a difference. Unlike traditional flip phones like the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Oppo Find N3 Flip, the Pura X features a wide inner display, making it resemble a mini-tablet.

The Pura X features a square 3.5-inch 120Hz OLED cover display and a 6.3-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Huawei says its latest flip phone runs on HarmonyOS 5.0.1, its proprietary operating system, out of the box and offers up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, the latter being exclusive to the Collector’s Edition. However, the company has not disclosed the name of the chipset powering the device.

On top of the cover display, there’s a pill-shaped camera island housing a quad-camera setup, which includes a 50MP primary camera with OIS, a 40MP ultrawide lens, an 8MP telephoto shooter with 3.5x optical zoom, and a dedicated 1.5MP colour sensor.

Measuring 15.1mm thick when folded and 7.15mm when unfolded, the device weighs up to 195 grams and features IPX8 water resistance, meaning it can be submerged in up to 2 meters of water. It packs a 4,720mAh battery with support for 66W wired and 40W wireless charging and includes DeepSeek along with Huawei’s Pangu AI integration.

The Huawei Pura X is currently available in China, priced at CNY 7,499 (approximately Rs 89,585).

Huawei continues to make different smartphones

Huawei has been on fire lately with its smartphone designs. Earlier this year, the company introduced a third display to smartphones—something its competitors have yet to offer. Huawei went ahead and launched the Mate XT, a €3,499 smartphone with three screens, in international markets.

Now, with the Pura X, Huawei is releasing a phone powered by its own operating system as it aims to establish a viable alternative to Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS. This device is crucial for Huawei’s efforts to make a strong comeback in global markets.
