Apple recently unveiled the iPad 11th Gen powered by the A16 chip and the iPad Air 7th Gen sporting the M3 chip. While both tablets run on iPadOS 18 out of the box, there is a huge difference in terms of hardware and raw performance. If you are thinking of buying a new iPad and are confused about whether to go with the new baseline iPad or spend extra and purchase the newest iPad Air, here’s a quick comparison between the two that might help you decide which one is worth your money.
Design and screen size
The iPad 11th Gen and the iPad Air 7th Gen both look and feel similar, and there’s little to distinguish between the two. Both tablets come with an 11-inch display and have a USB-C port and sport a single 12MP rear camera.
While they are indistinguishable from the front as well, the new iPad Air is also available in a 13-inch display variant, which, depending on your usage, may or may not suit your preferences.
For example, on the 13-inch iPad Air, you can place two full-sized apps side by side, but on the smaller 11-inch variant or the base iPad 11th Gen, you might have to either use apps fullscreen or make one smaller.
Another advantage the iPad Air 7th Gen has over the iPad 11th Gen is that the former has more accurate colours and comes with an anti-reflective coating, which should make it easier to see in highly lit areas or in bright daylight.
As for the colourways, the iPad 11th Gen is available in yellow, pink, blue and silver while the iPad Air 7th Gen comes in blue, purple, starlight and black.

Performance and software
The biggest difference between the iPad 11th Gen and the iPad Air 7th Gen is in terms of performance. Apple’s latest base iPad is powered by the A16 silicon, an older chip that debuted on the iPhone 15 series whereas the new iPad Air is powered by the M3 chip, which also powers MacBooks and iMacs.
The iPad Air also gets Apple’s Stage Manager and support for Apple Intelligence, which the company says will be available in April this year. While the tech giant never officially reveals the RAM on its smartphones and tablets, the emission of Apple Intelligence support on the iPad 11th Gen means that it likely has less RAM than the new iPad Air.

iPad 11th Gen vs iPad Air 7th Gen: Which one should you buy?
The iPad 11th Gen and iPad Air 7th Gen both are pretty good when it comes to multitasking and watching media on the go. With a starting price of Rs 34,900, the base model of the iPad 11th Gen with 128GB storage is a great deal.
But if you are looking to buy a tablet with AI features and a faster chipset, the 11-inch iPad Air 7th Gen powered by the M3 chip makes more sense. However, those looking for a laptop replacement should consider purchasing the 13-inch iPad Air 7th Gen as it has more screen space and will be more comfortable to multitask on. The 11-inch and 13-inch variants of the iPad Air 7th Gen start from Rs 59,900 and Rs 79,900 respectively.
