Oppo continues its collaboration with the legendary camera maker Hasselblad for its latest flagship smartphone series — Find X8. In a press conference right after the launch, Oppo’s head of product management, Arne Herkelman told Indianexpress.com that Oppo’s collaboration with Hasselblad is primarily about colour science, where “the pictures from the Find X8 series will look very much like ones shot on the Hasselblad X2D medium format camera with the same colour, blur, and bokeh effect.”
For context, the Hasselblad X2D is a professional-grade medium-format mirrorless camera priced at over Rs 7,00,000, famous for its superior image quality.

Herkelman acknowledged the shift in Oppo’s approach to photography, explaining how previous devices tended to oversaturate images, resulting in overly vivid greens and blues. “Now, everything looks more natural and balanced,” he said. The Hasselblad partnership has also enabled Oppo to improve the texture and depth of smartphone photography, making images appear more lifelike.
Oppo has also baked in a “Master Mode” on the Find X8 series, for photographers, where it clicks RAW images, retaining all the data, which can then be tweaked as per one’s taste. Oppo is also using AI to enhance the clarity of the image using the diffusion technique, especially after 60x zoom, as the information available from the sensor gets limited. For those who don’t want the AI effect on their pictures, there is also an option to turn it off.
On the Find X8 Pro (review), Oppo has introduced a quick button that currently only works in landscape mode. Herkelman confirmed that with a future software update, the company is considering adding support for portrait mode and a few other features such as the ability to switch between different lenses (Find X8 Pro has four 50 MP cameras) and the latest software update also enabled macro mode on the primary wide-angle camera.
Besides Hasselblad, Oppo is also working with several apps and services to further fine-tune the camera experience, which includes YouTube, where users can upload Dolby Vision videos shot on the Find X8 series, and they will retain the high-dynamic range. The Find X8 Pro and the Find X8 are some of the first smartphones that can shoot 4K 60fps videos in Dolby Vision format on all the cameras, including the selfie shooter.
