On Wednesday, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, its latest mid-tier smartphone chipset, built on 4nm process technology. Android manufacturers such as Realme, OPPO, and Honor will be among the first to launch devices powered by this new chip in the coming months.
“This platform brings a new level of performance and power efficiency for users to enjoy virtually anywhere with ultra-fast 5G and Wi-Fi, enhancing their everyday activities, whether playing, creating, or working. Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 will drive the next leap forward for smartphones in the mid-tier thanks to significant advancements in AI, gaming, and photography,” said Deepu John, senior director of product management at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, the new chip offers up to 11 per cent more CPU performance and 29per cent more GPU performance while consuming 12 per cent less power.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 supports up to FHD+ resolution screens with up to a 144Hz refresh rate. It can also output a maximum resolution of 4K at 60Hz to an external display. However, achieving this higher resolution output requires a faster USB 3.1 port, which will vary from device to device.
This is also the first chip in the Snapdragon 6 series to support on-device generative AI, enabling tasks like email drafting, content summarisation, and background noise cancellation. It also introduces lossless audio via the Snapdragon Sound Technology Suite to mid-range smartphones, a feature previously limited to high-end flagship models.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 features an octa-core CPU cluster comprising a single prime core clocked at 2.3 GHz, three performance cores running at 2.2 GHz, and four efficiency cores at 1.8 GHz. It supports up to 16GB of LPDDR5/DDR4X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.
A phone equipped with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 can support up to 64MP cameras, with the ability to capture photos up to 200MP and record 4K HDR video at 30fps. The built-in 5G modem delivers download speeds of up to 2.9Gbps, and the chip also supports Wi-Fi 6E.
