Samsung, despite being the first smartphone major to introduce foldables, even after six generations of devices, the smartphones are still on the expensive side. Samsung’s fan edition (FE) series of smartphones is known for democratising flagship smartphones for the masses, but we haven’t seen an FE edition of its foldable, which is said to change very soon.
A Korean blogger named yeux1122 suggested that Samsung’s first budget foldable, the Z Flip FE, is already in the works, and will reportedly launch along with the Galaxy Z Flip7/Fold7 later next year.
An official statement by Samsung, during its latest earning calls, backs this leak, where the company stated, “We are considering ways to lower entry barriers so that more customers can actually experience foldable products, given the high satisfaction among existing foldable users.”
Unlike a regular smartphone, there aren’t many aspects for Samsung to cut corners to reduce the overall cost of its upcoming budget foldable, as things like the screen and hinge are something that cannot be compromised.
However, Samsung might be able to use components from its previous offerings, such as last-generation chips, less memory or storage, and entry-level optics.
In terms of look and feel, the upcoming Z Flip FE might look very much like the Galaxy Z Flip5/6 with an almost similar design or form factor. A cover display on the outside and a 6.7-inch foldable screen on the inside, possibly along with IPX8 certification for water resistance.
Considering the possible launch timeline, the device is expected to ship with Android 15-based OneUI 7, and we can expect extended software support from Samsung.

Considering brands like Motorola already have a strong portfolio of affordable foldables, and with the upcoming models, Samsung will be competing with the same.
